Reinforced cement concrete ( RCC) is the most crucial building constituent which has got many nuances and complexities.In a normal RCC  framed building, following elements are cast in RCC:

RCC is a combination of concrete & steel bars. Concrete is strong in compression but is weak in tension.
First let us have a look at the basic definitions of compression & tension.:

Now you are sitting on a chair.The force in the legs of the chairs due to your weight is known as the compression. If you carry a bucket of water in your left hand , it is said that this hand is carrying tension which is equal to the weight of bucket & water.

In building elements there are cases when in a single element there could be compression on one side and tension on the other side.
Since concrete is weak in tension, it needs to be strengthened in this zone where tension is acting. Since steel is excellent in tension , steel bars are provided in the tension zone of concrete.
This method of providing additional strength by means of steel bars in the concrete is known as reinforcement and the concrete is known as reinforced cement concrete.

Steel bars which are used as reinforcement are of two types.

Mild steel bars & Ribbed bars.

Mild steel bars come in the grade Fe-250.
Since these are round in shape, they are called round bars or simply ” rounds”.
The Ribbed bars are high strength deformed bars and are provided with ribs on its surface to give higher bond 
strength.
These are available in Fe -415 , Fe -500 & Fe- 550 grades.

The unit weight of the steel bars can be found by the formula: DxD/162 Kg/m.
For understanding RCC we need to study the Concrete, reinforcement & Form-work .
Form-work comprises of Centering ,Shuttering ,Staging & Scaffolding.
Centering is horizontal support to the freshly laid concrete whereas Shuttering is the horizontal support ,

Staging is the method of supporting both centering & shuttering .Scaffolding is making working platform for the construction persons .
