## Case Study 01 – A Bungalow. For Over head water tank.

Total Number of Residents – 4

Plot Size –  Not required for calculations.

Step -01: DETAILS

1. No of Units to be served by this water tank (U) , U = 1
2. Average members per unit (m) , m = 4
3. Average water consumption per person per day , W= 135 Liters / day
4. Water storage to be made for how many days (n) , n = 2
5. Buffer supply to be maintained in the tank (x%) , x% = 5%
6. Free board to be kept = 250 to 300mm ,  let’s assume  : 300 mm

Step – 02: Find out the capacity of water tank;

C =   n x w x m x U (litre)

C =  2 x  135 x 4 x 1

C =  1080 Lt.

Step – 03: Add for the Buffer storage in the tank @ 5%

C1 = 1.05(n x w x m x U)

=1.05 x 1080 litre =  1134 litres

C2 = 1.05 (n x w x m x U) litres /1000

= 1134/1000 = 1.134 Cu.M

Step -04: Find out the height of the water in the tank

h = water capacity in CuM/ area of the water tank (a x b)

Area of water tank is assumed as  ( 1m  x 1.5 m ) = 1.5 Sq.m

= 1.134 / 1.5 =  0.75 m

Step -05 Find out the height of the water tank:

H = h + free board

= 0.75 + 0.300  = 1.05 m

Step -06  Basic Internal size of the water tank:

Size : 1m x 1.5m x 1.05 m

Step -07 To find the out size of the water tank  :

RCC wall thickness = 100mm

RCC slab base thickness = 100mm

RCC top slab = 100mm

a = 1+ 0.10+0.10 = 1.20m

b= 1.5+0.10+0.10 = 1.70m

H = 1.05 +0.1+0.10 = 1.25m

Overall size of the water tank :   1.2 m x 1.70m x 1.25m
