So ..This is a TWO way slab !

Friends ,

Lets understand the  ONE WAY  slab and  TWO WAY slab  theory in a practical way.

Let me first  take you to the construction site which we visited quite recently .

The slab was almost ready for casting and hence we could see the entire reinforcement in complete details.

YOU CAN SEE THE TWO SLAB IN THIS PHOTOGRAPH.

NOTE THE BENT UP BARS AT ALL PERIPHERIES.

But before we go further , I think we need to understand what is a BENT UP BAR  and why is it provided . Right ?

So , lets first look at the bent bar properly .

A BENT UP BAR USED IN  A TWO WAY SLAB.

Remember :

A bent up bar is also known as CRANK bar

and is sometimes referred as FLEXURAL STEEL.

Main purpose of a bent up bar is to resist the DIAGONAL SHEAR .

Also note that a bent up bar is ONLY provided in the FLEXURAL MEMBERS like                   Beams or Slabs.

Now look at the exact shape of the Bent up bar :

454

This is perhaps the ONLY reinforcement bar which is BENT at 45 degrees with the horizontal.

Now , let us also look at the Bent up bar provided in a BEAM.

IN THIS PICTURE , THE SLAB BARS ARE YET TO BE PROVIDED.

Now , with this background about the bent up bars , let us see the ground rules of the            ONE way and TWO way slabs.
