OH..NO..RE-BAR ONCE AGAIN ?

Hello dear Friends ,

Once again , another example of RE-BAR calculations using the excel sheet.

You shall note that only first time we need lots of time in preparing the excel sheet.

But once the sheet is ready , you can change any of the parameters and obtain the result within fraction of a second.

This is the beam kept in mind while preparing this excel sheet.

There is a cylinder whose base diameter is 15 m.

The height of this cylinder is also 15 m.

We need to find out the following :

3.PERIMETER AT THE TOP         4. SIDE SURFACE AREA

  1. VOLUME OF THE CYLINDER
  • STEP 01 : LET US  WRITE THE  FORMULAE NEEDED :
  • TOP AREA =  ╥ R2
  • BOTTOM AREA =  ╥ R2
  • TOP PERIMETER = 2 ╥ R
  • SIDE SURFACE AREA =(2 ╥ R ) H
  • VOLUME = (╥ R2 ) H

WE ALREADY KNOW THE DATA :

  • DIAMETER ,D = 15 M ,
  • RADIUS , R = 7.5 M
  • HEIGHT , H = 15.0 M
  • STEP 02 :  PUT THE VALUES :R = 7.5 M , H = 15.0 M
  • TOP AREA = ╥ R2 = 22/7 X 7.5 X 7.5  =176.785 SQM.
  • BOTTOM AREA :SAME AS TOP AREA
  • TOP PERIMETER = 2 ╥ R
  • = 2 X22/7 X7.5 = 47.142 M

Estimation for water capacity

Exercise :

How much water can be stored in a water of internal size :

  • 2.5M x 6.5M
  • Height of water in tank is 1.8 M.

Answer :

  • Quantity of Water that can be stored in this water tank can be found as follows :
  • 2.5 M x 6.5 M x 1.8 M
  • = 29.25 cum.
  • 29.25 cum x 1000 L
  • = 29,250 Litres
  • =29.25 KL

Sir .. Sand is 10 brass

Overview :

In construction industry , this term brass is used to denote volume of the materials purchased and also the surface area of the floor or the wall .Quite often , the new entrant to this field gets confused over the exact use of this term.

This article explains the basic meaning of Brass and how is this used at site.

Meaning :

Like a dozen means Twelve ( 12 nos ) , similarly the word brass means : One hundred  ( 100 ).

Most important thing to remember is that this term is used only with the British /English system of measurements and is not used with Metric system.

Usage types :

1. In context with surface area :

When used in context of surface area , the word brass means 100 Square foot.

Examples :

1.1. A slab measuring 15′ x 20 ‘ = 300 Sq.Ft .shall be said to be 300 / 100 = 3 Brass.

1.2. when a RCC contractor claims that he has 5 Brass of centering material available with him , what he is saying  is that the material which he is having ( centering plates , pipes etc . ) is adequate to make form work for a slab of surface area          = 5 x 100 = 500 Sq.Ft.

1.3. If a painter tell you that recently he has completed a bungalow where the plastic emulsion was 20 Brass , it means in that bungalow , the surface area of the painting done was 20 x 100 = 2000 Sq.Ft.

2.  In context with Volume :

When used in context of Volume  , the word brass means 100 Cubic foot.

Examples :

2.1. When an excavation of dimensions  25′ x 20 ‘ x 8 ‘ is carried out for a basement  , it is said that an excavation of   25’ x 20 ‘ x 8 ‘ = 4000 Cubic Foot or 4000 / 100 = 40 Brass has been completed.

2.2 When a truck carrying sand is received at site and is measured as 15′ x 8 ‘ x 3′ 6″ , it is said to be carrying sand of volume , 15’ x 8 ‘ x 3’ 6″ = 420 Cubic Foot or  420 / 100 = 4.2 Brass.

3. Remember :

3.1 . If only Brass is said , it can either mean 100 square foot or 100 cubic foot. 

3.2 If Brass is used in context of loose material like sand , murrum , aggregate or excavation or back filling with murrum , it shall mean 100 Cubic Foot.

3.3 If Brass is used in context of surface area like , flooring , slab , boulder soling , plastering , half brick thick wall , floor polishing or painting , it shall mean 100 Square foot.

3.4 If the units used are Square meter or Cubic meters , then the term brass is NOT TO BE USED.
