ESTIMATE FOR PLATE GIRDER

Today we shall spend some time on the structural steel work.

We shall estimate the weight of a PLATE GIRDER today.

Plate girder is a built up section comprising of angles and plates.

The section of the Plate girder is as follows :

Now we shall find the weight of this Plate girder.

For ease of calculations , we shall assume that the span is only 1 m.

First step is to CODIFY each of the elements for better tracking.

let us just write down which section is to be used for each element.

Let us write down the numbers of each elements.

let us now write down the sizes of the individual elements.

Let us now write down the unit weights of the structural steel sections.

You can do this with the help of SP-06 or Steel tables.

Now we are in position to find out the weights of individual members .

Now we shall add up all the weights together .

This shall give us weight of the plate girder per running meter.
